The Business Club

For business owners across the Valley

Don’t make your next big call alone.

Six evenings a year, you sit down with owners, operators, capital and advisors.

Take a seat

. You’re our guest.

You don’t need to know anyone.

Serious business. Good company.

The Bond, 32nd and CamelbackDoors at six. Home by nine.

The bigger your company gets, the fewer people you can talk to about it.

Some of it you can’t say to your team, and you don’t want to bring it home. Most of your friends don’t run a company. So it stays in your head at eleven at night:

  • the hire you’re not sure about
  • the offer on the table
  • the partner who stopped pulling their weight

The evenings are for talking them through with people who’ve made the same calls, and with people who advise on them for a living. You make big calls the way the companies you admire do: with the right people in the room.

From our first Gathering

Three strangers got talking that night. Since then they’ve bought three companies together.

From a later Gathering

Two more strangers met and started a company from scratch.

Owners mostly, and the people who bank them and paper their deals.

Most of their companies do between $2 million and $20 million a year. Some do more.

“I decided to build the room I couldn’t find.”

Nik Shehaj, host

“You’re around people all day, and you’re still alone with the stuff that actually matters. This club started as a few of us over cigars and dinner, talking business the way owners actually talk. Then I was looking at a company to buy, and I realized the room I needed around me didn’t exist. I went looking for it. Couldn’t find it.

My wife Kay looked at me one day and said, stop looking for the room. Build it. It was her idea before it was mine.”

Where this is going

A Phoenix where owners build bigger together than they ever could alone.

“This is your room. I want it to be the place where owners say, ‘that’s where you’ve got to go.’ By 2028, I want us on our way to a home of its own, right here in this valley.”

Nik Shehaj, host

A Gathering, hour by hour

The third Wednesday of every other month, at The Bond.

Doors at six, home by nine. It’s built for people with companies to run and kids to put to bed.

  1. 6:00

    Doors.

Hors d’oeuvres and a drink at the bar, music on, and the room fills. Sit where you like.

  2. 6:30

    The host opens the night.

He says who’s in the room and why, and says the one rule out loud.

  3. 6:40

    One speaker, one subject.

From somebody who’s done it. Then questions from the floor.

  4. 7:30

    Introductions.

The host introduces people who should know each other.

  5. 7:45

The rest of the night is for talking.

    Home by nine.

The last Gathering, September 16, 2026

Stan Sipes took the room. He helped grow Veyo from $60 million to $200 million in under three years. His subject was the six things that decide whether revenue compounds or flattens.

Can I come on my own?

Yes. You don’t need to know anyone. The host introduces people who should know each other. Five minutes before the doors open, he tells the members: “Tonight you’re hosts. Someone standing alone out there, bring them in.”

How much is a Gathering?

Guests come at six, on us: hors d’oeuvres and drinks, with a pop-up bar and one featured mocktail each evening.

Who pays for the evenings?

Members pay dues, and advisor firms hold seats, one firm per category. When the host introduces you to a lawyer, a lender or a CPA, he’ll tell you if their firm holds a seat.

What should I wear?

Business or business casual. Look good.

Do I have to speak?

No. Nobody is called on. Ask the speaker a question if you want to.

The one rule

Business gets done here. Nobody gets treated like a lead.

Talk shop and trade what you know. If you hit it off with someone, follow up with them yourself. Nobody pitches from the front or adds the people they meet to a mailing list.

Our three values

  1. 1

Bring the truth, not a pitch.

When we share numbers, they’re the real ones. The club never takes a piece of anyone’s deal.

  2. 2

    Open doors without keeping score.

We share what we know and who we know, and we give an hour when someone needs it.

  3. 3

    Put a date on it.

We ask each other “What’s your next move, and when?”, and ask again next time.

The Chartered seat

Some guests become members.

Every seat starts with an evening. Then seven questions, and a talk with the host.

  • A seat number, and your name on the Charter Roll
  • The hour before the doors, with the members
  • Member dinners with the host
  • Up to three guests on your name at every Gathering

Chartered Members are the club’s first fifty.

What a Chartered seat gets you

The companies you admire never make a big call alone. No owner in this valley should have to.
